Duration: 2019 - 2022

Building for Goal 13 - Cooperative development of modules for climate-conscious construction by exploratory learning - is a research and development project that supports the 13th goal of the UN Sustainable Development Goals: urgent measures for climate protection.

Three partner institutions - the Norddeutsches Zentrum für Nachhaltiges Bauen (NZNB), the M2C Institute for Applied Media Technologies and Culture (M2C) and the Bildungswerkstatt für nachhaltige Entwicklung e.V. (BiWeNa) – research and develop 18 modules on building and construction as climate protection in cooperation with the target group of apprentices, craftspeople, vocational education teachers and trainers.

Digital media break to support a sustainable construction turnaround

The project develops a participant-oriented, future-oriented, inspiring offer for climate protection in building trades. It uses innovative and digital methods of peer learning, participation, networking and visualisation. The project has the goal to promote climate protection through sustainable building and it wants to show what another building practice can do. Therefore, it fosters reflection of action by exploratory learning. Each of the 18 learning modules integrates cross-sectional topics such as the reflection of one's own reference to sustainable action, the house as a system or interdisciplinary cooperation. In the sense of a construction turnaround, knowledge about and the application of climate-protecting, resource-saving alternatives to conventional construction methods are promoted. The participation of target groups is wanted in this project, both in the development of learning content as well as beyond. For this purpose, innovative concepts are developed and implemented.

Goal 13 focuses on education and develops creative actions, digital methods, integrates social media and appeals to the expert audience as well as the public at large. This includes those who can decide on the construction of specific buildings: Politicians, architects, house builders, urbanists.

In this project, the M2C primarily works on digital media and public relations, peer community buiding and the promotion of participation through social media, as well as on the evaluation and the scientific dissemination. It also supports the development of the modules from a vocational education and media pedagogical perspective.

The NZNB contributes many years of technical and didactic expertise in the area of ecological building and is therefore primarily responsible for the development and implementation of the modules.

BiWeNa is mainly responsible for the acquisition of participants and dissemination in the area of Education for Sustainable Development.
